Summertime and outdoor concerts go hand in hand. And luckily for locals and tourist alike, Napa concerts are plentiful at this time of year. Whether you want to see big name acts, pack a picnic in the park, or check out a truly unique venue, the city has a variety of options for you.
So next time you head to Napa Valley in the summertime, go beyond the wine bottle (or bring it with you) and check out these amazing Napa concerts that come through town…
Pack a picnic for the park
There is no better way to enjoy the California sun than to hit one of the many Napa parks, but it is even better when there’s live music! Throughout the summer, there are a few concert series that are fun for everyone. You can hit a park, pack a picnic, and rock out with Napa’s stunning surrounding views.
First, you can enjoy Napa City Nights right downtown in Veterans Park. This Napa concert series occurs every Friday night throughout the summer and includes Jazz, Rock, Country, World, Blues, Pop and Folk musical genres. The amphitheater is located along the Napa Riverwalk and is within easy walking distance to world class restaurants. Bring a blanket, pack a picnic, and revel in free entertainment the whole family can enjoy.
“Third Thursday” is another free Napa concert series. And as you may have guessed, this concert occurs every third Thursday of the month, June through October. Located in the heart of old town in Fuller Park, these concerts provide great music right in the middle of an historical neighborhood. This one is definitely for the locals as kids can play in the playground, while parents can pack their food and enjoy dinner and a show.
Discover local bands at unique venues
While a public park is always a great place to catch a summer concert, checking out live music at one of Napa Valley’s unique venues is a must. And while there are plenty of locations within Napa Valley that can claim this fame, there are a couple concerts series that stand out.
First, why just go see one band when you can see dozens in one afternoon at Napa’s Porchfest? Always the last Sunday of July, Napa County musicians play on a variety of house porches in and around downtown neighborhoods. These historical neighborhoods provide a magical backdrop to give you a concert you won’t forget. So come on out and roam from porch to porch to hear some really great local music.
Sure roaming around neighborhoods listing to music is fun, but what if you want to sit and hang out and watch a cool band? St. Clair Brown’s Garden Music Series has you covered. For three months during the summer, they open up the garden after-hours to share a collection of their favorite bands with the city of Napa. This Garden Music Series is free for all, however, they don’t take reservations so you will need to arrive early for a good seat.
Enjoy legendry bands in a legendry place
While Napa has plenty of quaint venues with local music, there is also room for legendary music festivals right in downtown Napa. With an amazing Napa backdrop, big name acts have been coming to town and making memories.
The most popular is BottleRock. This three day music festival over Memorial Day weekend features the best in live music, wine, food, and brew. According to the founders the festival can be described as “a connoisseur’s rock festival for people with a palate”. The combination of amazing setting, billboard chart acts, world-class wine, Michelin star food, and amazing craft beer, make this summer concert one for the history books.
While Bottlerock is the unofficial start to Napa summers, the new Oxbow Riverstage takes Napans from summer right into Harvest. This new concert series will commence on Sunday August 25th with the Steve Miller Band, and Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives. This concert series will be a five-moth season and consist of a maximum of 20 concerts…15 ticketed and five free to the public. In 2019, they are anticipating 10 to 12 concerts, including 5 free shows. So come on out and be one of the first to experience this new Napa concert series.
Turn up the volume in the vines
While catching a Napa concert in the city is a must this summer, seeing a concert in the vineyards is always an amazing experience as well. There are a variety of summer concerts up valley, but the favorite among locals is the Robert Mondavi summer concert series. As we discussed in “Napa Art: It’s for all of us” Robert Mondavi Winery is a pillar in Napa Valley art community and hosting a summer conert series among the famous To Kalon vineyard just makes sense. Celebrating it’s golden anniversary in 2019, this Napa concert series has been going on for 50 years and have hosted acts like Ben Harper and The Struts and all proceeds go to charity….a true legendary Napa Valley experience.
In 2008, Live in the Vineyard started and has become one of the country’s most successful “private” music, food, and wine festivals. It takes place in the heart of Napa Valley and has featured over 400 A-list artist, vintners, and chefs. The goal of this concert series is to provide exclusive intimate access to top artist, top-tier winemakers, and world-renowned chefs.
Overall, you can’t go wrong with any Napa summer concert series. From billboard acts to a local’s garage band, there is a little something for everyone to enjoy. Pair your summer concert with a world-class Napa Valley wine, and you are in for a legendary experience.
